Flying over streets and houses...

Today's outfit is another LoveCats creation.

Rainbow Kitteh has long been one of my friend Imogen's favourites, and it quickly became one of mine.
This outfit is a happy, sunny affair, and the perfect remedy to those encroaching winter blues as it leaves little rainbow footprints as you walk.

Careful if you kiss me though, I'm so sweet I should come with a warning - May Cause Diabetes! - No artificial sweeteners here, I'm full fat!

Hmmm. That may explain why the dress was so tight.

Yes, its a swing, on a Giraffe
Anyway, never mind all that. This outfit took even less customisation and accessorising than the last one, with MAD citrus orange lips and LoveCats Waterfall Necklace, I also included a 'Smiler' HUD to help spread the happiness :)

Only thing better than a rainbow? A Double Rainbow!

What does it mean?

Big thanks to my good friend, LoveCat model, and newly graduated UCWS fashion model! Imogen! :)

Imogen, you're 'Simply the Best' Honey :D

Yarrr! D'ya wanna get your hands on my booty?

Avast ye landlubbers, this outfit is Ahoy! the latest creation from LoveCats.

It's also my latest acquisition, and I LOVE IT! What better way to start talking about my favourite clothes?

I'm ready to plunder Halloween costume parties and sail the seven sims. The boots show I'm ready for business, while the skirt flows as I move, giving the occasional glimpse of leg, and the heaving bosom, paired with a medium damping physics layer is straight out of the romance novels meaning I'll be breaking hearts wherever I go.

The detail is fantastic, from the little daggers on the boots, past the skull and  crossbones motif on the skirt and the ruffles on the shirt and cuffs, to the dainty choker neckerchief and feathered tri-corner hat.

It has resize scripts in all the important places, and the scripts can be deleted once  it fits (Keep the box!)

And Guys! you aren't consigned to watching the ladies look awesome, this outfit is available in a men's version too!

Why is the Rum Gone?

I didn't have to do much customisation beyond the usual hair/makeup with this outfit.
Hair is Milan by Amacci, skin is Bella #1 (Tan) by [MyDear] with a red eyebrow layer.
Eyes are Vivid Blue by Nireth and lips are MAD 'Kiss Me' Red.
Further accessorised with a freebe/dollarbie Rapier and parrot from Marketplace, and stockings from LoveCats Anastasia outfit.

Firestorm - By Lazy Bluxome

Ok, so I've been a bit lazy lately and been slacking off on my posts.

I want to talk about some of my favourite outfits, but first I'm gonna talk about SL viewers.

Like a significant proportion of SL's residents, I don't use the official Linden Labs viewer. When I first joined I used Emerald, but after privacy concerns were raised I switched to Imprudence, and then onto Phoenix, which became the most popular third party viewer on the grid.

Phoenix is a very good viewer, but the team behind it have another viewer too, Firestorm, based on Linden Labs Viewer 2/3 (rather than viewer 1.23 like Phoenix)

It's still in Beta, but after trying it for testing, its become my new mainline viewer.

There are still a few features to add, but it has some great features that make it worth using.

  • Outfits panel - Separate to the inventory, has an easy list of each outfit created, along with their components.
  • Multi Attach - The ability to attach more than one prim part to the same point on your avatar. Phoenix has this too, but won't do it automatically with outfits.
  • Multi Layers - A big one, you can have multiple items of clothing on the same layer, and the viewer remembers the order you put them on, so if you have a bikini top that the creator put on the jacket layer, you can still add another jacket layer over it. It also allows multi tatoo layers, which I need to be able to wear lipstick, a hairbase and eyebrow layers (and more) all at once.
  • Multiple inventory windows - great for sorting the inventory

There are plenty of other advantages, and plenty of things that are annoying (like the search), but it's looking good so far. :)

My Favorite Places in SL: Willow Manor

Cool Brittania

Willow Manor was a home in Estruda that I shared with my friend Kitty. It started out as just a skybox, but when she moved to ground level and rezed a garden it was beautiful. With beds of wildflowers among the willow trees, and a delightfull stone path sweeping between the flora to a lovely fountain. It's amazing the effect simple groundcovering can have

Willow Manor Willow Manor
The location was nice too, with a clear view of the water to the west offering stunning sunsets, and attractive builds on several adjacent parcels (There were some ugly ones too, but the asset blacklist took care of that!). Sometimes when I had nothing to do I'd just sit in the garden listening to the fountain and watching the sun go down, the sound of Kitty's pet cat mewing in the background.

The rent was a reasonable L$1/prim but it was bigger than we needed, and the time came to downsize, so we took up our prims, returned the package and went looking for pastures new. We found a few potential sites, some were quite nice, but none had that view.

If we hadn't done it, we'd never have discovered Greater Ireland, but I'll still miss it.Ironicaly we've found ourselves on a parcel from the same landlord on a different sim, time will tell if it ends up as pretty, although right now it's still looking pretty bare.

My Favorite Places in SL: The Exodus

I have pretty eclectic music tastes , from classic anthems to embarrassing cheesy pop (not too fond of techno though i must admit), but my favorite type of music has to be rock music.

The Exodus Rock Club in Westover Hills is, as the name suggests, plays my kind of music.

Their DJ's play great suff from various eras, and they sometimes have live performances, I've actualy discovered a lot of new (to me) bands by coming here. You can't choose which dance you get from the dance board, but that doesn't matter because the dances are good ones. They might actually be controlled by the host because they always seemed appropriate. There's a fun atmosphere, with plenty of banter without it feeling cliquey for a newcomer. The layout is simple and lag free, great for getting a load of bodies in, and the lighting is good with package specific windlight settings.

If you don't feel you look rock enough when you arrive there is a small mall, and they also offer skybox rentals.

My Favourite Places in SL: Greater Ireland [I Hardly Knew Ye :( ]

I had a plan in my head the order I was going to do these Favourite Places posts, but circumstances have forced me to bump this one forward.

Greater Ireland (Ireland by the Irish), Built by Derric Foggarty and Jules Artfull, was built over four full sims, and was without a doubt the most realistic location I've ever found on the grid.

The attention to detail in this re-creation of real world locations was astounding. With beautiful lighting effects, believable shadows, and a thoughtful layout, this wonderful location was filled with places to sit (with animations) and enjoy the ambience. An absolute minimum concession was made to the virtual aspect with no garish ad boards, 'floating' signs, or spammy prize chairs. Greater Ireland was clearly created as a labour of love, by people who just wanted to make something beautiful, rather than to make money.

Accommodation was available on the sims, in the form of cottages and shops, after we left Estruda (More on that in a later post), Kitty and I were looking for a new, smaller, place to live. We found a couple of possible locations, but then Kitty found Greater Ireland and fell in love with it. She showed it to me and I agreed, despite only having access to my low powered laptop at the time. Sadly all the cottages were taken, so we had to keep looking, but she registered her interest and we forlornly walked the streets checking rent boxes to see who might be leaving.

A couple of weeks later, we got a cottage, sticking a month's rent into the rent box we were so determined not to lose it now that we'd got it. We started attending events at one of the many pubs on the sims, (The Roisin Dubh, based on a real pub in Ireland.) The results of my whirlwind tour can be found scattered through this post and in the attached picassa album (as well as a few random shots of the Roisin Dubh in my Flickr)

Sadly it wasn't to last. Last week, less than two weeks into our tenancy and during the rolling restarts for software updates to the grid, the Greater Ireland sims went offline, and stayed offline. While I don't know the exact details, It turns out Derric was in Dispute with Linden Labs, with them demanding far too much money for far too little customer service. The difficult decision was made to close the sims permanently. They came back up briefly to allow renters to grab their stuff. I'd been planning on exploring and taking some pictures, but now I was against the clock to capture this place before it was gone for good.

All is not lost however, Derric plans to return with a scaled down replacement elsewhere on the grid. I don't know exactly what his plan is, but I trust him and Jules to make something wonderful, and we've already expressed an interest to take up a rental at the new place wherever and whenever it may be.

Good luck with the future Derric & Jules, and thanks for all your hard work.

P.S. Note to blogspot, your composition ui is terrible for laying out photos.

My Favourite Places in SL: The Galaxy

I was introduced to The Galaxy Strip Club and Mall by LoveCats when they sponsored a 'Best in Black or Neko' competition. The music was great, the costumes were great, and... I won!
The Winnarr!

Sometimes, wandering the grid you can find it to be a bit of a ghost town. If you ever wondered (while you wandered) where everyone was, they were probably here. It's rarely quiet and often heaving. There's almost always a competition on (Plenty of notifications without being spammy) And despite the nature of the club it's not just 'come naked' in a bid to boost traffic by bringing in pervs, seen plenty of other places do that. Thats not to say its never bare all, but it's usually something much more imaginative.

If ever I'm stuck for a place to go The Galaxy is always a good bet, even if you don't take part in the competition you're welcome to come as you are (which is also an occasional competition topic). The only drawback is of course that with popularity comes lag. The club is a no-script zone, which helps but it does mean you should get yourself set up before you TP.

Another good thing about popularity is you don't need to suffer fools, and while the staff are friendly, they have a strong 'no-assholes' policy -Especialy if you badmouth the dancers, always funny to see an idiot get torn a new one by the host (Hi Lexi).

In addition to the club there are shops and a stadium where they sometimes hold events.

My Favourite Places in SL: Rez

Rez Nightclub is one of the first SL clubs I discovered.

I'd been visiting a place called Rumors for a while but it closed for 'refurbishment' so I decided to do a search for other clubs in the meantime. I found Rez by accident, and while standing at the landing point, deciding if I should stay, one of the DJ's TP'd in next to me and invited me to come see his set. I gave it a go and had a great time. The club is well laid out with no clutter and decent dance balls which is a big must for me, with plenty of varied and well labeled single and couples dances. Not only that but the club employs dancers who are friendly, greet you, and often wear Dance HUDs.

The music is varied, I can't say I like every DJ's set, but there's a lot I do like, and there's sure to be something for everyone. There is a substantial shopping mall selling clothes and motion capture animations.

Rez is very pink, the above shot doesn't do it's pinkness justice, its a relaxed place were you can have a good time.
And their mascot is a cat, how can I say anything bad? :p

My Favourite Places in SL: LoveCats

LoveCats Neko Store and Mall (Owned by LoveCat Thei) is one of my favourite shops in Second Life. The clothes there vary from casual, to club-wear, to formal wear. Often with a Neko (cat) aspect like ears and tails, and always sexy.

I was introduced to the store by my friend Imogen, who works there as a model. After admiring many of the outfits she brought back from her shifts, and consequently sampling many of the special offers they have, I've become a regular customer. Most of my Looks are based on her outfits, and many of the rest include at least one LoveCat Accessory.

There are regular new releases (1/2 off for the first 24 hours), frequent sales, lucky letter boards and chairs. Special events like Christmas, New Year and Valentines are catered for, in both his and her variants. The shop is well laid out and the staff are professional and courteous.

Definitely worth a visit. :)

They also have a blog where you can find out about new releases.

Blog Photoshoot, a set on Flickr.
Of course, if you're setting up a blog about things that look nice you need to make sure the blog looks good too. And for me that meant making a good header image. I already had an idea about what I wanted after creating the Pyro and Ice 'outfits' in my viewer.

After visiting a couple of photo sims, I found Syleena Sheridan's Photo Square on Cyril Plage which had just what I needed. Some plain white backgrounds I could pose in front of. After taking my first shots, I had a look through the textured backgrounds and found some really nice ones, meaning I could do almost the whole thing there, rather than adding a background in Photoshop later.

(Clothing details can be found in the flickr tags)
